Put a Whole New Face on Your Smile

(c) Copyright 2006 by Cameron Miller

What you are about to read... could save your smile.

A dental implant could be the right choice to effect your Smile Restoration. Losing your teeth can often be traumatic, because it can change the entire look of your face. Implant dentistry can come to the rescue and Save Your Smile!

A titanium metal replacement for the root of your tooth, which is surgically implanted into your jawbone by the oral surgeon. As your body heals for about 2 - 6 months after the implant surgery, the bone around the implant will actually fuse to your new implant through a process called osseo-integration.

After the healing process is completed, dental implants can be used to secure crowns, bridges or dentures firmly in place. A close examination will be required, as will X-rays. The oral surgeon will work with you to develop a treatment plan that best fits your needs.

Dental implants are surgically attached to your jawbone while you're under local or general anesthesia. What if your dental implant fails to fuse correctly to the jawbone?

Some major factors determining the number of dental implants that will be needed are the overall condition, density, and mass of your jawbone. You don't want to have an implant fail because there weren't sufficient implants used to support your teeth.

Dental implants can provide artificial teeth that look natural and feel as secure as any crown and post.

The process of inserting your implant into the jawbone is called endosseous. Small posts protrude through the gum tissue in the same manner as teeth that have been prepared for caps or crowns. Replacement teeth are attached to the implanted posts.

Osseo-integrated implants are where the bone and implant mesh. Chemical and mechanical bonds are formed so your jawbone actually grows into your implants. Unless your jawbone cannot support implants due to bone loss, dental implants are the best thing offered by dentistry next to your original teeth.

In integrated dental practices like that of Leff, Weiss & Waldee, DDS of Plantation, Florida, the general dentists and periodontist work together as a team to ensure the best possible fit for your implants, while each work closely with dental anesthesiologists to ensure you're entirely comfortable during your dental implant procedure.
